NCAA Selects Sioux Falls to Host 2028 NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced its selection of host cities for 2027 and 2028 Division I and Division II Championships, with Sioux Falls being awarded the 2028 Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional. The Sioux Falls Sports Authority will host the event in collaboration with Augustana University at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center.

“We are thrilled to be awarded a DI Men’s Ice Hockey Regional”, said Thomas Lee, President of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority. “Having just hosted that event earlier this year, scheduled to host in 2026 and 2028, and through Augustana Hockey’s success, Sioux Falls is cementing ourselves as a great hockey and NCAA Championships city.”

“Anytime we can shine a light on the excellence of our community of Sioux Falls and Augustana, we jump at the chance to do it”, said Josh Morton, Vice President for Athletics at Augustana University. “From the economic impact to community excitement to giving our student-athletes the opportunity to compete in their home city makes this incredibly exciting.”

This will mark the fourth time that Sioux Falls will host the NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional, following previous events in 2018, 2024, and a scheduled 2026 regional.

Sioux Falls will now host the following NCAA Championships through 2028:

·         2024: Division II Women’s Volleyball Championship, Sanford Pentagon

·         2026: Division II Wrestling Championship, Denny Sanford PREMIER Center

·         2026: Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional, Denny Sanford PREMIER Center

·         2028: Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Regional, Denny Sanford PREMIER Center

The Sioux Falls Sports Authority submitted bids for NCAA Championship events earlier this year, following a bidding process that began in November 2023. Final proposals were submitted in February 2024.
